No PPSN: preparing for the CRO IPN and VIF route

Not having a PPSN is a question to resolve before filing. Ask which identity route applies to your circumstances and whether an existing identity record should be checked before a new process begins.

Confirm eligibility before starting

CRO describes an IPN issued through successful VIF verification for eligible people without a PPSN. It also explains circumstances where the PPSN route must be used. Tell the team if you previously lived in Ireland or may already have a PPSN; do not assume absence of a number in your files means none exists.

Ask for the current process

Request a clear list of the information, verification and submission steps required for your case. Do not rely on an old online checklist that names a superseded identity process. Confirm who prepares the form, who verifies the evidence and how the completed material is supplied. The exact process should come from current official guidance and the team handling your application.

Keep the person’s details consistent

CRO validates relevant details against the underlying identity record. Have the person check the spelling and date-of-birth information directly. If documents differ, raise that issue before submission. Do not create a second identity record as a shortcut around a mismatch; ask for the appropriate way to resolve the discrepancy.

Record completion safely

Keep the resulting reference available through an appropriate restricted process, not in a public enquiry or broadly shared founder chat. The coordinator can record “identity route complete” in the general formation plan without displaying the number. Before purchasing support, confirm whether the selected package includes the identity work your specific officers need.

Your practical checklist

  • Check whether an existing PPSN should be located
  • Confirm eligibility for the current IPN route
  • Obtain the current VIF process from the team
  • Resolve name or date discrepancies before submission
  • Retain the outcome through an appropriate secure channel
