Section 137 bond: coverage is different from business capital

The amount of a director bond’s coverage is not a cash grant, share-capital contribution or quotation for buying it. Keep those concepts separate when planning a non-resident formation.

Separate the coverage from the price

CRO specifies €25,000 bond coverage for certain fines and penalties, with a minimum two-year validity. That figure is not the premium you pay. Obtain a confirmed quotation for the service you are ordering and do not enter the coverage amount as cash available to run your new company.

Read the service scope

Our Non-Resident package includes the stated two-year bond and listed formation work. Ask what evidence of coverage you will receive and how its effective dates are recorded. The package price is a service price, distinct from the coverage amount. If your setup needs something outside the standard scope, ask for clarification before treating the advertised package as a final quote.

Keep a coverage record

Save the bond documentation where the company’s filing coordinator can find it. Record the insured company name, start date, end date and contact for questions. If a proposed name changes before formation, tell the team promptly so they can consider the effect on the documentation. Avoid having one founder hold the only copy in a personal inbox.

Plan the next decision early

Before the coverage period ends, review whether the company still relies on this route and ask about the next steps. Do not assume incorporation permanently settles director residency compliance. A reminder well before expiry gives you time to obtain advice and arrange any continuing requirement without turning the renewal into an emergency.

Your practical checklist

  • Distinguish coverage amount from premium and capital
  • Confirm exactly what the ordered package includes
  • Retain the company-specific bond documentation
  • Record coverage dates and a responsible contact
  • Review the continuing route before expiry
