Changing your registered office without losing important post

Coordinate the official address update with the practical move. A new address is useful only if the receiving arrangement is ready and important correspondence can reach the right people throughout the handover.

Confirm the new arrangement first

CRO uses Form B2 for a registered-office change. Before arranging the filing, confirm the complete address, authority to use it and the person or service receiving correspondence. If you are moving between providers, agree the intended handover date and the requirements each provider needs to close or start its service.

Coordinate the filing and service handover

Ask the filing coordinator to confirm the submission and outcome. Separately, ask the outgoing provider what happens to notices received during the transition. Do not assume either provider will forward post indefinitely. Keep written instructions and contact details so an unexpected notice can be routed rather than returned without your knowledge.

Review connected records

Identify banks, advisers, insurers, suppliers and website disclosures that may hold the old address. Ask each what evidence it requires for an update. A CRO filing does not necessarily amend those separate records automatically. Keep a change list with dates and confirmations rather than relying on a single email announcing that the address has moved.

Check the first weeks of operation

Confirm that the new service can contact the responsible person and their backup. Ask whether any correspondence remains with the old provider and ensure it has been collected. Review stored company documents and address templates so the previous address does not keep appearing in new material. Close the handover only when the operational tasks are resolved.

Your practical checklist

  • Confirm the new address and receiving arrangement
  • Arrange the appropriate B2 filing
  • Agree handling of transitional correspondence
  • Update relevant providers and business disclosures
  • Check the handover before closing the old service
