Begin with the incorporated company details
Revenue requires the CRO number for new-company registration. Prepare the certificate, legal name, officer details and description of intended activity for your adviser. Use the final company information rather than the proposed details from an early enquiry. Explain where the business will operate and when the relevant activity is expected to begin.
Agree the tax heads separately
Discuss Corporation Tax, VAT, employer PAYE and any other relevant registration with the accountant. Do not treat them as one automatic bundle. For each, record the reason it applies, the proposed start date and any information still needed. If the business model changes while the application is being prepared, tell the adviser before the assumptions are submitted.
Confirm who submits and follows up
Ask which registration route will be used, who receives queries and how you will know the outcome. Keep the acknowledgement and official notice in the tax file. “The accountant has it” is not a useful completion record if nobody can identify the status or outstanding information. Agree a contact and a review date for pending work.
Plan the ongoing handover
Once registrations are confirmed, arrange the access, records and timetable needed for returns and payments. Ask the accountant to review invoice and payroll preparation where relevant. A registration is the beginning of a recurring process, so put the responsibility for later tasks in writing rather than assuming the person who submitted the application handles them indefinitely.
Your practical checklist
- Use final CRO details and a clear activity description
- Assess each relevant tax head separately
- Confirm registration route and task ownership
- Store official outcomes and effective dates
- Arrange records, access and the ongoing filing scope
